A WSU Board Meeting was held on September 21, 2018 at the Margaree Salmon Association's office in the Cranton Crossroads Community Center in NE Margaree. One of the topics discussed, was the lack of information received from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) regarding the genetic analysis that was to be performed on the specimens during the Grand River project that WSU funded. In e-mail communications with DFO's scientist, Alex Levy the lead scientist on the project, president Wall was informed that a re-structuring of his department had taken place and he hasn't found the resources to do the analysis. President Wall has informed him of WSU's displeasure with this news. However, the board felt a letter should be sent to the DFO Regional Director General to express our concerns over this matter and to see whether the analysis can be expedited. President Wall has sent the letter and we'll keep everyone informed.
Geoff Nishi, of the Inverness South Angler's Association (ISAA), provided an overview of the work that was done on the Graham's river over the past 3 years and funded, mostly, by WSU. It was very successful and now the ISAA are planning on doing a major project on the South West Mabou river and they will, in all likelihood, want WSU to partner with them.
President Wall, who is also on the board of the Margaree Salmon Museum (MSM), indicted that it is looking to develop a "Friends of the Museum" initiative that is primarily a mechanism to raise funds to help with operational and maintenance requirements. The WSU board voted unanimously to provide $500 per year for 3 years to help it meet those requirements.
