June 18th, BOD meeting summary

The Wild Salmon Unlimited (WSU) Board of Directors met on June18th, 2016 prior to the Society’s annual general meeting. The primary goal of the meeting was to prepare for the AGM that followed immediately. Among the topics discussed was the PayPal payment methodology on the website for membership dues. The system is set up as a subscription. This means that when a person pays for the current year membership, that membership will be renewed automatically in subsequent years. There is, however, an option on the site to bypass the automatic renewal if the person so desires. Membership in the society is based on the calendar year. This decision was made for two reasons: first: since it’s tax deductible it coincides with the Charitable Status filing requirements of the Canadian Revenue Agency and, second: a poll of members at the 2015 annual meeting showed the majority were in favour of the calendar year.

A suggestion, from Lowell Weir, to establish a policy for the allocation of funds during the progression of projects funded by WSU was discussed and will be implemented.

Ticket sales on a draw for two Pieroway salmon rods went very well. The majority of the tickets were sold at the Sydney Mines Sports Show in early spring. The winners were announced at the annual meeting.

This was the last meeting of the current Board. A new board was elected at the AGM and assembled, as per. our bylaws following the meeting to appoint a new executive.
