The Board met on November 30th, 2016 in East Margaree at the New Horizon's Senior's Club building. Most of the discussion centered around the issue of raising salmon to various stages. A committee was formed to research the work being done by Cooke Aquaculture and Parks Canada in New Brunswick. If the research proves favourable the methodology could be used on the Graham's and Grand rivers. The committee will report back on its findings at the next meeting in January.
A couple of Board members will also investigate the availability of fish rearing facilities in Cape Breton. They will also report back at the next meeting.
Another committee was formed to investigate areas where WSU and other like-minded organizations could work together. Two areas brought forward were fundraising dinners and attendance at various Sportsman shows. It was felt that by working together many hands make light work. Also, costs could be shared and money saved. A tentative list of initiatives was developed and an action plan will be presented at the next Board meeting.
There was consensus reached on supporting the Margaree Salmon Association in their efforts to carry out a main channel fluvial geomorphic study on the river.
