The Board meeting was held in the New Horizons Senior's Club at 40 Marsh Brook Rd. East Margaree, NS. Following approval of the previous minutes Pat Wall, in Joel Robinson's absence, presented the financial report which was approved by the Board. He then indicated that Lowell Weir, our fundraising chair, had successfully obtained this year's contribution from one of our donors. The check was late. as WSU was not aware we had to send an invoice which we will do in the future. Pat also said he had spent $120 for the maintenance of the website.
Clifford Boudreau reported that the Richmond Wildlife Association still hadn't received the genetic analysis report from DFO. WSU funded the endeavour 2 years ago and still no results. Pat indicated that he had approached the DFO scientist, Alex Levy, who was responsible for the project and asked about the report but all Levy did was shrug his shoulders. Very frustrating. Clifford also said he had conversations with Provincial Fisheries officials about stocking brown trout in the Grand river. He was told that the Grand already had a healthy population of brown trout.
Chuck Thompson reported that he is having on-going conversations with UNIR, DFO and Parks Canada over possible initiatives on the North Aspy and Grand rivers. He will continue to try and get something going and report back on his efforts.
A conversation about doing a fish count at the Grand river fish ladder ensued. It was decided that it should be part of Chuck's discussion with DFO and UNIR.
John Stinson indicated that, when the space is not being used by the Margaree Salmon Association (MSA), they would let WSU use its office in the Cranton Crossroads Community Center for future meetings as well as for the student carrying out the enhancement study..
Peter Hill and Clifford Boudreau indicated they would be retiring from the Board of Directors after this term. Pat indicated he would poll the other members for their intentions.
The next Board of Directors meeting will be held on May 4th, 2018.
