The beaver dam has been breached and the beavers are gone. Staff are awaiting word from Charlie, our consultant, regarding channel restoration in the area.
Personnel are working on a permit to use machinery to restore the channel in one braided area and stabilize the riverbank in three locations about 500 meters below the beaver dam. This section is the big impediment to salmon access to the middle section of the Graham’s.
The 18 hand built rock structures below Campbell’s Bridge are almost completed and a permit is being processed to install hand built rock structures above and below Campbell’s Bridge. This work should occupy the crew to the end of the in-stream season.
The beaver dam removal, machine work below it, remediation of migratory impediments below MacDonald’s and Campbell’s Bridge, and the improvement to access above Campbell’s Bridge opens up access to spawning and rearing grounds for the native stocks. This is quite an achievement for our first season of work.
