A multi-faceted project is progressing on the Grand and River Inhabitants systems in Cape Breton. WSU is a major funding partner on this project that is spear-headed by the Richmond County Wildlife Association in concert with First Nations (UINR) and the Department of Fisheries and Ocean's (DFO) population ecology division. The project involves obtaining recent information on juvenile salmon densities and distribution in Eastern Cape Breton; collecting habitat information and tissue samples for genetic analysis and obtaining microsatalite genetic analysis of samples collected to further evaluate population structuring in that region. The data obtained from this initiative will be maintained and managed collaboratively by UNIR and DFO science staff. The projected date for the data analysis is winter 2016-17.
